PDF Password Protect
Add a password (AES-256) to a PDF using a downloadable qpdf workflow.
Best for: Use it before emailing sensitive documents - contracts, statements, records - so only the recipient with the password can open them.
Input
⚠ PDF encryption (40/128-bit RC4 / AES) requires the document to be re-written with cipher streams. The in-browser pdf-lib build does not include encryption. Use a downloadable script approach instead:
- Generate a secure password with the Password Generator.
- Use qpdf locally:
qpdf --encrypt PASS PASS 256 -- in.pdf out.pdf
